“The more you give, the more you get” this statement underpins everything we do at Mullane and we count ourselves particularly fortunate that we are able to give more than most. The Mullane Foundation was set up to formalise our giving to the community and to inspire us to contribute to those less fortunate in a structured, effective way. Every year part of our profits goes directly back into communities that need it most.
The founding principle of our foundation is that we truly believe in our good fortune to have built a business around the provision of clean water, sanitary drainage, shelter (roofing) and electricity.
We also truly believe that we are incredibly fortunate to live in a society that largely takes these precious commodities for granted.
We are determined to give back to communities that never take these things for granted. Our mission is to provide hands on support to locals in communities without basic infrastructure to build and maintain facilities that provide clean water, effective sewage disposal, roofing or electricity.
We do this by funding projects in which our people are happy to donate their labour so that the giving of all parties is amplified for the benefit of the recipient and the participants.
If there is any project in your local community you think we can help you with, please contact us. We love helping our friends in need.
COVID19 has had a huge global impact on how communities are able to connect with each other and how they are able to care for themselves and their families. Our friends in the Philippines have been hit especially hard and the availability of food and essential items has been extremely limited. Lockdown orders and extended periods of quarantine have meant families in remote communities are unable to access local food supply chains. Although we are unable to travel this year to help remote communities with our charter of providing sanitation and clean water, we have been able to partner with Malipai to deliver life saving food packs to the remote village of Abkasa, Philippines. Some of the students have made this heart warming video for us, reminding us that every little bit counts. As members of Team Mullane we can feel proud that our hard work and dedication enables us to continue to help global communities less fortunate than ours.
In October 2018 we partnered with Sione’s Academy to rebuild GPS Kolonga Primary School after it was destroyed by cyclone Gita in early 2018. Sione’s vision is to build a training and education facility in Tonga, incorporating health and well being as well as academic and sporting opportunities for the community and country.
We were able to provide new toilets, wash basins, bubblers, electricity and educational supplies for the school and its 145 students.
Sione’s Academy and Pathways are creating remarkable opportunities for all the children of Tonga to fulfil their dreams. The Mullane Foundation is delighted to be working with Sione on this project and we look forward to continuing our partnership.
In May 2018 The Mullane Foundation partnered with the Matab and Livelihood Project Association Inc (Malipai), RTC Commercial and Litchfield Roofing to help rebuild 8 family homes in the Abkasa Village of Bacolod City, Philippines.
It was a fantastic experience to for all involved, the Mullane crew was overwhelmed with the hospitality and resilience of the Filipino people – 8 families welcomed us into their homes and shared their stories with us and in return we helped to repair their homes so they had somewhere warm and dry to sleep at night.
In the process of building we were also able to share our knowledge with a few locals each day and by the end of the week they had picked up a lot of new skills – even some new tools! (Thank you to the Mullane boys who donated their personal tools back to the community). The comradery built with the locals was fun to watch and it was heartwarming that they were so keen to learn new skills and grateful at the opportunity to keep the tools they had been using, so they could take what they had learnt and apply it back to their own homes and possibly even earn additional income for their families by becoming local builders.
It was an experience we will never forget and we can’t wait until we are able to return and see how the families are progressing. – As well as help out a lot of new families!
In July 2011 Mullane was offered the opportunity to join a team from North’s Construction & Building in partnership with New Hope International to help the Duna people of the Pori Area in the Hela Region of the Southern Highlands Province PNG. The Pori Community-based development group CIEDA had nurtured the idea of building an Early Childhood Development Centre at Yegeli as a way to care for the needs of local children from prenatal to Elementary School level.
Through their efforts and the enthusiasm of the local people and the teams from North, New Hope International, Mullane, as well as many more helpers, they were able to complete a building consisting of an office, two large meeting/training areas, two bedrooms, kitchen, and bathroom as well as accommodation.
The building boasts solar-powered low energy, LED lighting throughout with 240v power available via an inverter from the same solar panels. It has hot and cold water piped to the kitchen and bathroom with all wastewater collected and piped to an environmentally safe disposal system.
Mullane is grateful and proud to have been offered the opportunity to have worked with North and the Pori people on this project.
In November 2007 the small community of Embogo on the North Coast of PNG was devastated by Cyclone Guba.=
In 2008 Mullane sent a small team to restore drinking water, repair roofs and to rebuild classrooms and dormitories.
We were able to help the 240 students get back to school and provide shelter to those who lived onsite. We had a wonderful time meeting the local families
and getting to know more about Papua New Guinea’s culture.
